Given the stagnation of real power-holders constantly shown the finger by the peoples of the region, trying Marbial, recently, to organize themselves to take charge of their destiny.
What is striking when one crosses the hinterland is the almost total lack of infrastructure and basic services. Rural people blame the state and question its function and its actual existence. A Marbial, rhetoric is the same. To do this, the natives of this community section have finally decided to take charge, by developing a tool for incitement and involvement in development called "Association of son and daughters and friends (es) Marbial" (AFAM) with the pulse of parishioners and lay people of their locality or elsewhere.
Their goal is to bring children and friends Marbial leading to the creation of a space for discussion, analysis to help develop Marbial. This effort involves improving the physical space, economic and cultural area. The unit is the watchword of AFAM, especially as nothing can be done in the chaos and division.
The first challenge in this marginalized community in the ecosystem is to save an environment in perpetual decay. Hence the willingness to reforest their land by planting thousands of cuttings of sugar cane. Land acquired by the association has allowed the Department of Justice to build a peace court and the office of the registrar.
The ambitious project to build the road Marbial through the vault is almost complete on paper. The construction of a vocational school to allow young people to learn a profession of their choice and avoid the latter to wander in urban centers, is among priorities.
AFAM members met in a few weeks ago, at the rectory Marbial to take stock of their activities and consider future needs. Native from the capital and the diaspora were in attendance.
The big innovation this year is, without doubt, the establishment of a microcredit program targeting the peasantry. The good organization of the community Marbial caught the attention of several patrons Italian. Donations collected after the earthquake of January 12, 2010 will support local projects in Haiti by Caritas Caritas Italy via Haiti.
For Marianna Calabro, an Italian came to attend this meeting, the idea is to give economic viability to this organization, which will be accompanied in its microcredit. The strategy is to support recipients to do the work. Such support for local Haitian organizations could last for ten years, says Marianna.
A well organized community, living on a very fertile land, in an environment full of resources and assets to transform its products, can overcome many challenges in its future. Manna transient NGOs is not enough. Local solidarity should not push the state to shine by its absence. The political will must be added to provide real support and selfless to citizens. They know better than anyone, needs. This is the case Marbial.
