The Haitian government on Friday sent a protest note to Jamaica and called his ambassador to be consulted after the Haitian under-17 national soccer team was excluded of the eliminatory for the World Cup Mexico 2011.
According to information reaching here from Haiti's capital Port-au-Prince, Haitian Foreign Minister Marie Michele Rey said that this issue would be presented to the Caribbean Community (Caricom) to report about "this behavior which could affect the good ties between both countries."
On Wednesday, Jamaica decided to keep all members of the Haitian national team in quarantine because four of the players tested positive in dengue and with this decision Haiti was dropped out of the competition, when it was just two points far of getting the ticket to attend the World Cup Mexico 2011.
"We sent a protest note to the Jamaican authorities to denounced the bad treatment against the players of the national team and we called our ambassador Max Alce to be consulted," Michele said as quoted by Haitian radio station Metropole.
Meanwhile, the Sports Ministry and the Youth, Sports and Civic Actions Ministry also protested on Friday against the "discriminatory" measures taken by the Jamaican authorities.
The Youth Ministry said that Jamaica's decision attempts against the international sports principles.
"Apparently the organizers used the disease as a pretext to exclude the national team, when we know that dengue is not a contagious disease," experts Louissaint Elysee said on Thursday.
The World Cup Mexico 2011 will be hosted in Mexico from June 18 to July 10.
