The UN Independent Expert on the situation of human rights in Haiti, Michel Forst, is visiting Haiti to assess the situation since its last mission in September 2010 and follow up recommendations made in its last report to Council on Human Rights.
Arrived in Haiti on February 20 last, he stayed there until 27 February to address the issue of human rights and humanitarian crisis in the implementation of a rights approach in the reconstruction.
Michel Forst also addresses the theme of the struggle against impunity for grave violations of human rights and the pursuit of reforms in the field of rule of law.
During this third mission in Haiti following the terrible earthquake of January 12, 2010, the independent expert talks with government officials and judicial level, those of the UN Mission for Stabilization in Haiti (MINUSTAH ), members of the diplomatic corps and civil society.
Michel Forst is scheduled to visit camps of displaced persons, prisons and move in Jacmel (Southeast) and Cap-Haitien (Nord).
